"Naturally Undone" Portrait Series

This series showcases Black women’s natural hair in the state that’s usually hidden. Black women have been conditioned that their hair always has to be laid, tamed, fluffed, primped before it’s acceptable. Unless you live with us or are our hairdresser, you may not be privy to what natural hair looks like before we leave the house. 

And if we are caught when our hair isn’t done, we make excuses as to why.  

In turn, many women with natural hair aren’t comfortable being seen when their hair isn’t done.

"Naturally Undone" portraits were taken outside or places Black woman would usually not be caught with their hair not done. The portraits celebrate the acceptability, normalcy and beauty of natural hair, and the women willing to sport it. 

These women dared to leave the house ‘like that’.
